The Cans Short Films Festival is an alternating and enjoyable appointment with the best short films made in Galicia. A special Short Films Festival that this year reaches its fifth edition. It is again the village of Cans, in O Porriño, Pontevedra, that holds the epicentre of the filming earthquake in the country for a few days. In the Cans Festival, short films made in Galicia are projected but it is much more than a Short Films Festival: this year it will be held from the 21st to the 24th of May and a few more activities will be offered throughout the same month. It coincides with the Cannes Film Festival, that gathers the most glamorous people and events of worldwide cinematography on the same weekend. The Cans Festival takes over the whole village: the plain where celebrations take place along with the parish church are the meeting point where concerts and the awards ceremony happen. The showrooms where the shorts will be projected this year are spread around the village: barns and basements change their normal uses to become cinema rooms. Make sure you get a ticket to see the participating shorts (fiction and animation). And for those who don´t have a voucher, good fun is guaranteed: musical performances, Can Parade, a great atmosphere, short films in the “Jalpón Friki”, a video clip competition and some other projections. Free activities open to everybody. The Festival is organized by the Cultural Association Arela, created and formed by young people from O Porriño and Mos, all coordinated by the scriptwriter Alfonso Pato. Apart from the different sponsors and collaborators, the neighbours’ support is very important. They lend the showrooms and Chimpibuses, which are small tractors used as the ideal public transport in the Festival. |
